Short Term Gratification V/s Long Term GainThis week, I sent out a podcast episode about the importance of making long term gain a priority (rather than short term gratification).
Now I know that sounds very complicated, so let me break it down for you. Basically, we all make decisions everyday - decisions that involve choosing whether we will pamper ourselves right now or whether we will sacrifice now to gain something in the long term. For instance, do you say no to that cookie right now to choose fitness in the long term? Do you swallow your anger and analyze it now so that you have a better relationship in the long term? Similarly, do you fight the urge to watch TV now and go out to jog - because that is good for you in the long run?
I myself face all these decisions everyday. For instance, while writing this newsletter is fun, I sometimes make sure I write even if it is not fun - because I know I want to write it "deep down" - and because I know I want to create an impact in the long term.
In my latest podcast episode, I've talked about this "fight" between short term gratification and long term gains. I've talked about how to decide in such circumstances - and how to stick to your decisions. I've talked about a simple strategy that helped me get over over-eating (at least to a good extent) and start exercising everyday.
Hope you enjoy this one!
Reader Question About Communicating WellSwamy is a reader from Vishakhapatnam, India and he recently asked a question at Personal Development Is Fun. His question was:
"Whenever I try to have a conversation with most people, I become confused. I find that I am not able to express my views well. How can I communicate effectively and also more confidently?"
